Healthy Eating at School Lane Nursery

At our nursery, we believe healthy eating is about more than just food—it’s about learning, independence, and making good choices. Children are encouraged to serve themselves from our self-serve station, which includes a variety of fresh fruits, croissants, milk, and water. This helps them build confidence and understand what a balanced choice looks like. Each day, we also have conversations about what’s in our lunchboxes and whether the foods are healthy, encouraging children to think about nutrition in a fun and age-appropriate way. Cooking is a regular part of our activities, giving children hands-on experience with food preparation, safe handling, and discussions about where food comes from. We explore food as part of our learning about the wider world, using stories, books, and cultural celebrations to discover how people eat in different countries.
